"Peace is a daily, a weekly, a monthly process, gradually changing opinions, slowly eroding old barriers, quietly building new structures."

- John F. Kennedy

ABOUT THE MEMORIAL

Peace Memorial: A long journey

The Peace Memorial is based on the philosophy that peace begins with thoughts of peace. In Rotary, we believe that peace belongs in the hearts and minds of each individual. By igniting the flame of goodwill and understanding through the promotion of peace, we can stimulate a shift in attitudes within both our local and global communities.
The members of the Rotary Club of Northern Guam originally designed the memorial in 2001 for promoting peace and understanding and to symbolize a Rotary Peace Island on Guam to join over 100 cities and islands around the world, which have memorialized their dedication to peace.
After the terrorist attacks on our nation on September 11, 2001, Northern Guam Rotarians expanded the memorial to serve as a tribute to those who lost their lives on that fateful day. The design now incorporates the twin towers of the World Trade Center, the Pentagon, and the forests of Pennsylvania.
In 2003, the Peace Memorial Monument broke ground at Two Lover’s Point in Tumon. The highly frequented tourist site is centrally located providing convenient access to visit the memorial.
By the generosity of many supporters in Guam and Japan, the monument was finally completed in 2011.

Now you have an opportunity to be a part of the Peace Memorial. On behalf of the Rotarians of RCNG, we invite you to promote peace by purchasing a Tribute Tile
You or that of someone you wish to honor or remember will be engraved on a Tribute Tile surrounding the centerpiece of our Peace Memorial. Each Tile comes with a lifetime guarantee and will forever encase the Peace Memorial with your name and accompanying message of encouraging peace the world over.
